COVID-19 is Putting Air Conditioning (AC) on Blast

Air-conditioning (AC) is on blast right now and here’s why...

What you need to know about your household HVAC system and COVID-19.

It may seem obvious, but most air conditioners are built to blow cool air around your home or workplace. While the cool air is a benefit, the airflow of a residential HVAC system also pushes ultrafine particles into the air where they are suspended or until they are recirculated throughout your home or office. WebMD explains in a recent article that certain particles, like COVID-19, hang in the air for a very long time. Logically, a virus from one room has the potential to reach many rooms through typical HVAC circulation.

"Whether you have central air, a wall unit or a window unit, experts say there are precautions you can take to make sure the circulating air isn't spreading the virus."

Inside Edition explains with the help of Vinny Lobdell, Indoor Air Quality Expert, that one possible solution for removing air conditioner (AC) circulated airborne particles is installing portable air filters strategically throughout your office or home. In a New York City high-rise office building, Lobdell showcases how professional air filtration systems can take harmful particles right out of the air.

Vinny Lobdell starts his assessment by measuring air quality around the office space. The particle counter shows roughly 240,000 particles per cubic foot of air in the environment. A typical Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) assessment suggested by the U.S. Green Building Council (LEED) and the EPA consists of baseline testing during normal occupancy hours while the HVAC system is running as it normally would.

After testing and noting particle counts, Vinny places the particle counter near the air purification machine. In a few moments, the viewer sees almost all particle numbers go to 0 - an exciting result of the air purification system omitting nearly all airborne particles within its reach.

The Intellipure 950P unit exemplified extremely positive results within the New York City office building and showed viewers on Inside Edition that removing dangerous airborne particles caused by HVAC systems is possible

Many experts are saying that air filtration systems are the current answer, especially if you're concerned about your environment having airborne pathogens like COVID-19. According to WebMD, buying an air filtration system is a suitable solution, but their experts suggest that you should "do your research and buy a good air cleaner that will work in your home or office."

Finally, you can invest in an air cleaner. Miller [WebMD Expert] cautions that if you go this route, you need to do a fair amount of homework first...

As many publishers and experts start talking about the spread of airborne particles due to COVID-19, more and more people are looking for a solution. At a time when there is so much uncertainty, it is exciting that our line of Intellipure products can help make indoor environments safer for us all.

Thanks to our very own Vinny Lobdell, for taking the time to share IAQ information with Inside Edition and the world.
