Intellipure May 2024 Allergen Report

Spring is in full swing across the United States and already allergy sufferers are feeling the effects. Areas that experienced a mild winter and early warm temperatures are seeing early tree pollen blooms that have been especially heavy. While the southern half of the United States has mostly moved past the initial blast of tree pollen, the upper half of the country will get hit starting in early May. Experts are predicting that several major cities from Washington D.C. to New York City may see record tree pollen counts.

Grass pollen will start emerging across the southern half of the United States in May. The worst hit states are predicted to be along a line from Alabama to westward to Texas. Areas along the Atlantic coast from Georgia to North Carolina may be spared with lower than average grass pollen counts. Luckily it is too early for weed pollen across most of the country to make much of an impact, but that won’t last long as June comes around.

Here are the typical pollens that can be found across the United States this May:

While the only way to control outdoor pollen is a good rain storm, indoors it is a different matter. A high quality air purifier will do wonders to remove allergens like pollen from your living space. Intellipure has a variety of air filtration solutions from compact portable units all the way up to whole house solutions. Intellipure's DFS technology uses electronically enhanced filtration to attract and capture ultrafine particles (99.97% filtration down to 0.3 microns).

Have pets in your home? It’s shedding season!

If you have a furry companion (or two) you are already familiar with random loose fur. But in the springtime around April and May your pets may start shedding their winter coat in preparation of warmer weather. Changes in daylight cycles and temperature fluctuations trigger an automatic response that tells your pet winter time is over. That means more pet fur and pet dander in the air. Make sure to brush your pet regularly to help rid them of excess fur and keep that same fur from flying around your house. Vacuuming more often will also help keep pet fur at bay.

Relying on just your HVAC filter may not work this spring, as pleasant weather means less need for heat or air conditioning. That’s why a standalone air purifier should be part of your allergen fighting team.

mold

Mold is back!

Well, it actually never left. During the winter mold usually goes dormant due to cold temperatures and dry air. Mold loves warm weather and high humidity, so as spring arrives so does mold growth. If you live in the southeast where temperatures are already climbing into the high 80s with lots of moisture, conditions are right for mold growth. Spring cleaning is a great opportunity to get into those deep recesses in the basement and attic where mold likes to take hold. But that same cleaning can also send countless mold spores into the air inside your house. Mold spore allergy affects can range from sneezing to headaches and aren’t always immediate. To keep mold spore allergies at bay use an indoor air purifier and dry out any damp areas where mold can grow.
