This year I am focusing on health and how to improve mine so I don't just look good, I feel good. That means I am checking into everything and making improvements one step at a time.
When falling temperatures mean waking up in the middle of the night coughing you know you have to do something. Apparently, air quality is a much bigger problem than I realized.
More than ½ of the people who live in the United States have unhealthy levels of air pollution, translation you are putting yourself and your family at risk. With asthma, allergies, and other health problems air quality can affect everything to how you feel every day to the quality of your sleep. I've made changes in other areas, but apparently, I need to make more changes here.
So, where do I start?
The first thing I decided to tackle was our environment, starting with the air we breathe at home. Honestly, at first, I thought air was a weird place to start in my health journey, but then I started to think about all of the ways that the quality of our air was interrupted our lives.
- Allergy season is terrible, runny noses, sneezing, medicine, and sleep interruption. I don't know about yours, but these are all BIG problems in our house.
- In the winter, colds and viruses are always running rampant. When we get sick, especially me everything STOPS.
- I was waking up in the middle of the night coughing during certain times of the year. (This totally sucks)
How did I miss this???? Did you know?
I started to look at the air purifier we had a low powered one and noticed that things were a little better, but we needed something stronger.
These are some of the things that were important to me.
- It needed to be powerful enough to work for our home.
- I needed something that was high quality and that would actually last. I don't mind investing if what we invest in is quality.
- I wanted one that was made in America.
My choice
I decided to go with the Intellipure Ultrafine 468. It can clean the air in a room up to 750 square feet.
It's more efficient than HEPA filtration standards.
First impressions
The unit arrived via UPS. It was beautifully packed, and I couldn't believe the detail. The note included in my unit made me feel super special. The website stated that each model is made by hand…What??? Who still does that.
The machine itself was in a black bag and unveiling it was almost as fun as plugging it in or the first time and hearing the roar. I was amazed at the simplicity of the machine and the intricate details.
The layers of filters were easy to see and looked easy to replace. Rounded edges, a picturesque display that provided more options that I understood was just the beginning.
I plugged it in and waited. The unit has numerous settings, one for just about anything it seems. There is a setting for sleeping, another, if you want a big blast to clear smells and changing them, is the touch of a button.
I don't believe in testing things for a day or two, that's not realistic. If you want to see HOW SOMETHING REALLY WORKS you have to spend some time with it, so for 6-weeks that is exactly what I did.
Here is what i thought about the Intellipure Ultrafine 468
There is a setting for just about everything. You can tell it's on, but for the everyday setting, it's quiet. When we make bacon or fish and we want to clear the air, we turn it on and the scent is literally gone in minutes. My coughing at night has totally and completely stopped, no more waking up at night feeling like I am choking. The air just seems different, I wish I could put it into words, but for me the tangibles are clear, we feel better.
When all of our friends were sick with stomach bugs, coughs, and colds even though we were around them, we all avoided them coincidence… I don't think so.
Family members who've had significant problems with air quality because of toxins and mold exposure saw the details on the machine and were really impressed. They knew what they meant and they were so impressed that they are going to look at getting one of these machines for their own home.
We live in an older house and we have two cats, dust and hair particles are very real challenges for our family, yet with the Intellipure Ultrafine 468, the air really seems lighter.
Other highlights worth mentioning…
- Each machine has received a Certificate of Efficiency to ensure that each individual unit performs up to standards.
- The unit combats all three-pollutant categories - micro-organisms, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), and particles.
- It's better than HEPA, which is what you want if you want better air quality.
This machine exceeded my personal standards and it also works better than I expected. I didn't really think that I would see changes the first time we used it, but we did. I can't wait to see how it improves our lives during allergy season. I am certainly thankful that I don't wake up in the middle of the night coughing anymore. If you have asthma or know someone who does this unit is a no-brainer. Even if you don't, I believe the Intellipure Ultrafine 468 unit is WELL worth the money.
